Ronnie Butler has an extensive library of songs that he added his personal touch to spanning for nearly 50 years of his career. With no sign of stopping now, Ronnie continues to re-invent himself for the changing trends in the music business in The Bahamas. His first record "Ronnie Butler Steps Out" was done back in 1964 by Tom Jacobs in a room at the Royal Victoria Hotel. Many artist, including Ronnie felt exploited. Copies of these recordings are very rare and almost non-existent.

The recent string of hit recordings produced by producers like Fred Ferguson and Cedric Munnings has brought a new surge of appreciation for this cultural icon. Ronnie, over the years, has recorded country, pop, R&B, ballads, calypso, junkanoo, rake 'n' scrape, you name it, he's done it. Below are just a few samples of the various styles that Ronnie recorded in the 15 albums to his credit.

This first excerpt is don in the calypso style. The message in calypso song takes priority over the music, thus, the simple I, IV, V progression. Inn small island communities, much like small towns, the gossip of neighbors is not uncommon. Here how Ronnie deals with this dilemma

The fusion of the sounds and rhythms from the sixties and seventies are the driving spirit behind this next song. "Bahama Rock" has been made popular once again by junkanoo bands that participated in the annual Boxing Day and New Years Day parades. This song continues to be an old Bahamian favorite.

This old favorite re-done by Ronnie speaks of the times when he first started out. The nights at The Rebel Room in Nassau attracted folks for both near and far. It was not uncommon to record the hits from America or other parts of the world in order to satisfy the taste of tourists visiting the Island.

Sweet-hearting in the islands has become almost an epidemic. Men fooling around even made it's way to the Presidency of the United States. Ronnie has a great way of dealing with this issue. He just say - "I'm a happily married man". Set to the junkanoo rhythm, the music arranger (Chris Fox) gives this pre-recorded song a new face lift. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Cedric Munnings, Ronnie sings.
